Driven Pheasant at Bettws Hall, Wales
October 6 - October 11, 2019
You are invited to join me at Bettws Hall, in The Welsh Borders, for some of the finest Driven Pheasant and Partridge Shooting in The United Kingdom! We will be shooting four Driven Bird Days on the famous estates of Vaynor Park, Plas Dinam, The Brigands Estate and Maesmawr Hall,. You will be delighted and challenged by the quality of these magnificent, high-flying birds.
Vaynor Park – 400 Birds
This shoot features traditional rolling parkland with deep valleys where cover crops combine with the natural topography of the countryside, setting the scene for a truly spectacular day’s shooting with challenging, high and fast pheasant and partridge.
At Vaynor, we usually shoot three drives in the morning, breaking for champagne and soup between drives. A gorgeous lunch is served in the Lodges at Bettws Hall followed by one or two drives in the afternoon. At the end of the day, tea and cakes are served while we wait for the Head Keeper to announce the bag.
Plas Dinam - 400 Birds
The Llandinam Shoot Estate encompasses 4,000 acres of prime shooting country. There are numerous opportunities for a diverse collection of distinctive drives; the stunning landscape has all the attributes that define an exceptional shooting estate. At Plas Dinam there are drives of the same quality as “Tommies” at Brigands, “Hanging Wood” at Vaynor and “Chimineys” at Chargot. All of this, in one location!
The Brigands Estate – 400 Birds
The Brigands Estate lies between the steep-sided valleys of the Cambrian Mountains on the edge of the Snowdonia National Park. It is a high bird shoot with awe-inspiring drives such as “Gwenion”, “Hell Fire”, “Seven Twenty” and “The Marsh”, to name but a few. The pheasants tower high above the old oaks and heather-clad hills, creating a day’s shooting to be talked about for years to come. Expanding over the most breathtaking scenery, The Brigands is a truly spectacular shoot.
Guests meet at Bryn Cleifion Hall for coffee in front of the roaring open fire. After the morning briefing by the Shoot Host and your introduction to your Loader, it is off for the first of three morning drives. Guests will usually return to the Hall for a traditional shoot lunch before the afternoon drives.
Maesmawr Hall – 400 Birds
Neatly tucked away in the back waters of Powys, lies one of the most enchanting Halls in the area. A warm welcome awaits your arrival at the Shoot Lodge where fresh coffee and biscuits are served in the reception room. The safety briefing is given and everyone prepares for the day ahead. Once pegs are drawn, the Shooting Party proceeds to the first drive, only minutes away.
Drives vary from woodland rides to wonderful open fields where all the Guns can see each other shooting as the pheasants glide over the line. This mixture of steep, wooded valley and high, gorsy banks and hilltop woodlands makes this the classic Shooting Estate. It is simply a glorious place to shoot!
